The European standard
The Regulation (EU) 2016/426 (GAR – Gas Appliances Regulation) of the European Parliament and of the European Council of 9th March 2016 and that cancels Directive 2009/142/CE disciplines the procedures for the certification of appliances burning gaseous fuels and of their fittings.
A gasous appliance is defined as:
“appliance burning gaseous fuels for cooking, refrigerating, air-conditioning, space heating, hot water production, lighting or washing.”
A “Fitting” is defined as:
“Safety device, controlling device or regulating device and sub-assemblies thereof, designed to be incorporated into an appliance or to be assembled to constitute an appliance;
This Regulation does not apply to appliances specifically designed:
(a) for use in industrial processes carried out on industrial premises;
(b) for use on aircrafts and railways;
(c) for research purposes for temporary use in laboratories
The exclusion of the appliances specifically designed for industrial uses refers to gas appliances that are in a company and used just for the production activity. On the contrary, the appliances not directly involved in the company’s production process have to be certified.
ANCCP Certification Agency is a Notified Body to the European Union (n° 0302) for the granting of the EU Conformity Certificates of the gas appliances and fittings according to the following procedures:
Annex III – Module B
Annex III – Module C2
Annex III – Module D
Annex III – Module E
Annex III – Module F
Annex III – Module G
ANCCP issues certificates including appliances for:
– space heating;
– hot water production;
– combined production of hot water and space heating
The certification process according to GAR Regulation carried out by ANCCP includes the execution of laboratory tests on the prototype and an annual control on production, as chosen by the manufacturer based on the different procedures established by the Directives.
The tests for verifying the conformity to GAR Regulation include burning tests using different gas types, based on the customer’s needs and the destination countries of the appliance.
Manufacturers, importers, distributors and business operators that want to place on the European market the gas appliances as defined in Regulation (EU) 2016/426 have to get the conformity certification that allow them to affix the CE Marking on the finished product.
CE Marking, joint with the filling of the EU Declaration of Conformity permits to sell the products in all the Member States of the European Union.
